The School District of Jefferson www.jefferson.k12.wi.us, in partnership with the community, provides an environment of excellence and opportunity for all students to achieve their dreams. The School District of Jefferson consists of East Elementary, West Elementary, Sullivan Elementary, Jefferson Middle School and Jefferson High School. The area also has two parochial schools - St.John's Lutheran and St. John the Baptist grade schools. Jefferson is also fortunate to have St. Coletta, which has a 100-year tradition of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. A Character in Action program has been implemented throughout the Jefferson School District. The Character in Action Community Action Team is a group of dedicated community individuals who meet monthly with the Superintendent of Schools and Character Education Coordinator. This team discusses and implements ways in which the entire community can become aware of character education and promotes good chracter in every setting. Everyone in our school district is "An Essential Piece" working together to promote chracter and insuring that the young people in our community see and hear good examples of respect, responsibility, honesty and kindness every day. The "essential piece" of an individual is "character." As Character Education and the emplasis of values (our community identified nine traits that we highlight) is important in every setting (school, home, work, etc.) it is important that parents and school-age children participate. We consider the adults in our community the real role models and believe that children "watch" what we do more than they "listen" to what we say. The Character in Action Community Action Team welcomes new members and encourages business leaders to join the team. By working together we can change the social climate in every environment in the Jefferson School District.
