A strong German Community which celebrates that heritage in September annually. 2007 marks Gemuetlichkeit Days 37th celebration and the theme for 2007 is "Fass Spass or "Barrel of Fun" and will be held on September 14-16. We extend a warm welcome to everyone to join us for this great event. The three-day event is held on the second weekend after Labor Day. This is a family event with a German theme. Young and old dress in traditional German costume, and participate in contests for all ages throughout the weekend. Enjoy music and dancing to great bands, good food, fellowship and a huge parade on Sunday. Everyone is German for the weekend! More information can be found at www.gdays.org. Our annual May Ball was held on May 12th announcing King Gary and Queen Mary Haag who will reign over the activities throughout this year.
The Madison Classic Spring and Fall Car Show at the Jefferson County Fair Park are the biggest events, drawing tens-of-thousands. These two events are usually held the last full weekend in April and the last full weekend in September, respectively. For the car buffs, these shows have everything from the hard to find parts to refurbished cars. Sunday is the day owners bring in their beautiful show cars. The Jefferson County Fair, first held in 1853, was held in various places within the county in its early days. Since 1866, it has been held in Jefferson each July. The five-day event features fabulous rides, free grandstand shows and all the great 4-H projects that make a fair special. The County has done some extensive updating of the facilities over the past few years that has enhanced the park for all the functions held there throughout the year. Antique auctions are held regularly throughout the year, and flea markets are held during the winter months. There are also camping facilities available at the fair park. Jeffersons annual Christmas Parade of Lights Dec. 1, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. is truly an event you dont want to miss. Beautiful floats decorated with hundreds of lights are entered in this holiday parade. Definitely awesome! The Chamber decorates Christmas trees with white lights and red bows, which are placed in the flower receptacles. Jefferson Utilities puts up the holiday banners and lighted snowflakes, and the Chamber sponsors a retailers window decorating contest. Everyone gathers in the city hall meeting rooms after the parade to listen to musical selections by local choirs, to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments and snacks.
Concerts in the Park are held during the summer for the past six years see our calendar of events for dates and times. These concerts are free and are sponsored by the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson Tourism, and Jefferson Utilities. Food and beverages are available from 5 to 8:30 p.m. We also have a farmer's market from 4-8p.m. on these same dates. Bring your lawn chairs down to Rotary Park and enjoy the tranquility of the river and musical entertainment provided six times during the summer.
The Jefferson Chamber is involved in many fund raisers throughout the year. One is our annual golf outing (fifth this year) held in May at Meadow Springs Country Club. Autumn Fest is held the first Saturday in October. This year it is October 6th from 9am-2p.m. Vendors on the street are welcome, if interested in selling your wares please contact the Jefferson Chamber so we can reserve a spot for you. We have a wide array of activities planned for the whole family, come join in the fun.
Take a Kid Fishing Day is held the first Saturday in June annually sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson and Department of Natural Resources. They meet at 8:00 a.m. at Riverfront Park-City of Jefferson, South Pavilion. Their topics this year were Boat & River Safety and Knot Tying. Free Bait is provided after the seminar, weigh in is at 3 p.m. where food and refreshments are served and prizes are awarded. This is also a DNR FREE FISHING WEEKEND, NO LICENSE REQUIRED. Boys & Girls are encouraged to spend the day fishing with their parents or guardians. Experience Fisherman and equipment available for children without a parent or guardian.
