Several churches in Jefferson, representing most major denominations, symbolize a strong and continuous commitment to spiritual growth and understanding.  The oldest churches are St. Lawrence Catholic Church (on Highway 18 at the east outskirt of town) built in 1851, St.John's Evangelical Lutheran Church built in 1851, and St.John's the Baptist Catholic Church built in 1859.  The spires of these churches can be seen from anywhere in Jefferson.  Churches are listed on a sign visible when entering the city.
